Focus and Scope

BRAIN. Broad Research in Artificial Intelligence and Neuroscience was established in January 2010 to publish cutting-edge research focused on the brain and artificial intelligence. The journal emphasizes multidisciplinary studies that explore the emulation of human brain functions through AI methods, neuroscientific approaches to understanding the brain, the treatment of psychiatric disorders, and the application of AI in diverse fields such as health, medicine, life sciences, and cognitive sciences.

BRAIN Journal operates as an open-access platform dedicated to disseminating the latest scientific findings on the brain, consciousness, and their connections with artificial intelligence. The journal actively supports innovation and research across health, medicine, life sciences, and cognitive science. Its primary areas of focus include:

  • Medical Sciences: Neuroscience, neuroimaging, neuroenhancement, psychiatry, forensic medicine, neurology, medical anthropology (topics related to the brain), genome sequencing and genomic studies (utilizing computers and artificial intelligence), neuropathology, brain pathology, medical ethics and bioethics, neurosurgery, evolutionary biology, embryology (nervous system development), and anatomopathology (nervous system topics).

  • Computer Sciences: Applications of artificial intelligence and computing in medicine, natural language processing, formal and modal logics, brain-machine communication, machine learning, deep learning programming, language processing, robotics (especially in medical contexts), brain simulations, computer simulations, virtual reality, and augmented reality.

  • Psychology: Cognitive psychology, psychotherapies, social work for individuals with mental disabilities, and psychopathology.

  • Interdisciplinary Topics: Philosophy of mind, neuroethics, philosophy of artificial intelligence, ethics of AI technologies, game theory, decision theory, transhumanism, and philosophy of language.

Initially edited and published by EduSoft, the journal's administration was transferred to Lumen in 2019. Following the conclusion of the contract with Lumen in August 2024, the editorial and publishing responsibilities for Issue 3 of Volume 15 (2024) reverted to EduSoft. Through its multidisciplinary approach, BRAIN Journal continues to foster the integration of neuroscience and artificial intelligence to advance understanding and improve the human condition.
